The difference between stainless steel screws 304 and 316 materials

We are not unfamiliar with stainless steel screws. The common ones are 304 and 316, which are widely used. However, the selection of stainless steel has always plagued many customers. Like ordering stainless steel screws, should I choose 304 or 316?

In fact, both 304 and 316 belong to austenitic stainless steels, both of which have good rust and corrosion resistance. Only in the corrosion resistance of some high temperature mechanics and other media will be more obvious. In fact, whether a stainless steel screw is made of 304 or 316 depends on the specific use environment and requirements of the screw.

1. Stainless steel 304 is a widely used stainless steel model with good overall performance, easy processing and high toughness, and is commonly used in common indoor and outdoor environments such as industry and furniture.

2. Compared with 304, stainless steel 316 contains molybdenum (Mo) element, which has good corrosion resistance and heat resistance, so it is used in marine, chemical and other environments.

However, due to the addition of rare metal elements, the price of 316 stainless steel will be higher than that of 304, so 316 is more expensive. If the cost is to be considered and the corrosion resistance is not high, we still recommend using 304 material for stainless steel screws to save costs. On the contrary, if the requirements are high, it is recommended to use 316 stainless steel material, which should be selected according to the actual application scenario, so that the service life of the screw will be longer.
